Drenched in Moonlit Rain — A Memory That Became a Poetic Love Letter

November 11, 2025 0 Comments

Girl drenched in moonlit rain by the river — poetic Tamil love letter scene.

A letter written under moonlit rain — where memories drench deeper than words.

A letter written under moonlit rain — where memories drench deeper than words.

(Every drop of that night still writes itself inside my heart… and now, on this page)

To Nilavan, from your Vairamalli (who believes love exists),

A thousand crore kisses to you.

I cannot prevent your gaze from falling on many, but I can prevent my love from falling on anyone but you. In this life, you alone are enough for me; loss of relationships is my truth. My life, which was once filled with exuberance, celebration and joy, will ultimately end up silently suffocating, unknown, in a jar of loneliness. Let it be...

Whether 1000 kilometers away or 0.1 centimeters away, north is north, and south is south. Some rules are like that – unchangeable and not to be changed. How can one retreat after desiring to scrape and experience love to its deepest sediments and then discovering its depth? I am breaking and leaking only in words; in my love life, I remain steadfast.

My five senses are yearning and waiting for your arrival like polythene bags stubbornly hanging from tree branches. Every time my eyelids droop, my loving heart longs to run to your lap. In the cloud of my youth, the lightning of desire always flashes brightly. Even if the electrified cloud doesn't pour honey rain, won't my lips yearn to be at least drenched by a drizzle of honey?

Whenever I think of rain, I remember my village. Have you bathed in the river during heavy rain? I have. On a day when there was no thunder and everyone at home was a little drowsy. As a child, I categorized rain as good or bad based on thunder. When good rain falls without thunder, the dancing heart joins hands with us. When bad rain falls, we melt and call upon him for support, "Arjuna, Arjuna."

I too have called out to him loudly whenever it thunders, hoping that one day, like Shaktimaan, he would appear before me, lift me up, fly me over the thundering clouds, sit me on his lap, and say, "Look, child. You are safe now," and pat my head. It never happened. But just once, bathe in the overflowing water bodies during the rain. You will experience the pleasure of your body and soul being drenched.

It is a paradise. At a time when it is barely evening, with a little darkness enveloping us and dark clouds surrounding us, and when the rain showers us with water-flowers on our heads, the garlands of river water caress and slip over our bodies. The beetles and butterflies silently watch us getting drenched in the kisses of rain, holding their breath. Have you ever heard the raga that rises when a raindrop falls and dissolves in the river water, compared to the music that is heard when it falls and splatters on the ground? Forget about caste, religion, creed and just be a witness one day to the sight of rainwater murmuring and mingling with the soil water. You will be mesmerized.

All this drama is only for good rain. Bad rain, that is, in my dictionary, during thunderstorms, especially when it rained while I was staying in the hostel, I have cried many times. Not because I was afraid that lightning would strike me. I have shed tears thinking about my mother's condition, how she would be there, and whether the thunder would affect her in any way.

That was the time when faith in God hung around my neck like amulets. That was the age when I did not know who was whose husband and wife among the gods. I have prayed to Krishna with Parvati, and Murugan with Saraswati, "Protect my mother from any harm." Imagine in the days without mobile phones... In a situation where I could not immediately know anything about their well-being, my soft toy was my companion and comforted me... and continues to comfort me.

The moment I boarded the early morning bus after the vacation, my connection to home would be severed. After that, until I entered the hostel, my connection to the outside world would only extend to the bus's window seat. Even now, though I travel only once in a while, my preferred choice is always the window seat. Leaning against it, with my hand on my cheek, I would enjoy watching each house as we passed.

Since it was morning, the women in every house would have started their household chores. In my imagination, I would place my mother in their place, thinking, "By this time, she would have returned home from the bus stop... By this time, she would have started drawing the kolam like this woman... By this time, she would have gone to the river to wash clothes," and I would travel in my imagination while traveling on the bus.

I have never told her about this imagination of mine, nor about my fear for their safety. It wouldn't be good to tell them now. It's the same with you. Some things, telling you now would seem like a drama. Besides, isn't it natural for the old to pass away and the new to enter? When new, shiny stars are shining around you, it's all the same whether a faded cloud exists or dies. Near a glamorous, colorful ROJA, the fragrance of a colorless jasmine will surely decay. It's ok. Be happy. That's enough for me.

Sincerely,

Your(?) jasmine that has started to decay.

Note : This letter isn’t an ending… it’s another whisper to my moon man. 🌙 Because Some memories don’t fade — they just return as words💌

The arrow of love you released in my heart pierced right through, but time to time it turns into a violin bow, playing the music of love in my heart... resurrecting me again.

The arrow of love you released in my heart pierced right through, but time to time it turns into a violin bow, playing the music of love in my heart... resurrecting me again.

To my beloved Moon King,

When did you appear? Where did you appear? Why did you appear? I neither know nor understand your history. You may have been born as the moon that day, but today you have been created as the Moon King for me. You are a wondrous magic, crafted by a skilled artist who used all the spells they had learned.

You never embraced me, nor did I experience you in reality. With just a single touch, you drew the life out of me and kept it with you. I am nothing but an empty, lifeless corpse. Yet, I glow every day. I shine with shyness. I blossom with happiness. You grant immortality to a corpse, causing flowers of smiles to spread their fragrance all over my body.

Don't mistakenly think that I come to you with longing, begging, because I can't find it anywhere else, with anyone else. My heart refuses to grant the birthright of love to anyone but you. The arrow of love you released in my heart pierced right through, but time to time it turns into a violin bow, playing the music of love in my heart... resurrecting me again.

Each time, like every seed that kisses the earth and breaks through its shell, each time your gaze scratches my heart, causing my love to sprout. Every flower that blooms from it insists on kissing only you. It says it will live coolly in the moisture of your lips, blooming for a lifetime.

Is it necessary to say all this for you to know? No. Unspoken words and unachieved nearness have never been an obstacle to our love, nor will they ever be. No matter how freely I roam without being near you, the string of my soul is in your hands. You are my focal point.

It's easy to find a lover like you, but finding you is a rare occurrence for me. Therefore, I value your love as something priceless. I've tucked away sweet memories of you as treasures in every layer of my memories. I've tattooed your name on my heart, in my brain, in my lungs.

I confess, I do have a Che Guevara tattoo on my hands. And it's still in my memory. When I was a sophomore in college, a friend's father became like a father to me, showering me with affection. He was the first to call me "Gayma." (Even now, whenever someone calls me that, my heart blooms like a jasmine flower, as if my father is calling me.)

He personally met Vairamuthu on the day of his book launch in coimbatore and bought a signed copy for me as a gift. And many more things… My introduction to him is a fascinating story in itself. My friend and I would often exchange books. Once, during semester exams, Vairamuthu's "Karuvachi Kaviyam" came into his hands, and he hesitated to give it to me.

Because there was semester exam for a paper in three days. He knew very well that if I got my hands on such books, I would immerse myself in them instead of studying for the exam. But I begged him, (threatened him a little), and promised to finish it as quickly as possible and seized the book.

Exactly 1 1/2 days. Four meals. Three coffees in between. That's all I remember. The look of fear in his eyes when I finished reading it completely and handed it back to him... Until that day, he called me an angel, but from that moment on, he started calling me a book vampire.

When he told his dad about this, he didn't believe him. So, when we met for dinner at the night in hostel canteen, he called his father on the phone and made him talk to me. That was the first time I spoke with him. Or rather, the conversation felt more like a quiz program.

Because he didn't believe how I could finish reading a 330-page book so quickly and thoroughly. He had finished reading it and sent it to his son. So, he decided to cross-check me by asking about the names of the characters, their relationships, and important twists in the book. I answered clearly, and only then did he believe that I had actually read the book, and not just superficially it.

After that, he would take me to every book exhibition organized by the Tamil Nadu Writers Association. That's where he introduced me Fidel Castro and Che Guevara. I was captivated with their video at first sight. I even got a tattoo of his nickname, "Che," on my hand, such was my love for him. I searched for and read books about him. I felt a slight anger and a little jealousy towards his lover at that time.

Now, to be honest, I don't remember many of the things I read about him. A scar on my hand as a symbol of love, that's all. I can show the world the love I have for him. But I can't even let you know the love I have for you. It's okay. Will I find more sincere, trustworthy friends outside than my heart, brain, and lungs that were born with me, grew up with me, and live with me? With the hope that they will understand my love,

Yours always,

Vaira Malli.

Your devoted lover who is reachable to hand, but out of reach to your lips writes here...

Your devoted lover who is reachable to hand, but out of reach to your lips writes here..

To my darling moon,

Your lover who is reachable to hand but out of reach to your lips writes here.  Everything seems to pass normally these days. But my heart, even now, stumbles, unable to extinguish the fire of your touch.  My fingers want to touch and rub your clothes all times and my arms wants to cling to you, like in Dulquer Salmaan's "Heeriye” song.

That song conveyed the longing of love, the pain of separation, the depth of emotion, and the joy of togetherness. You only introduced it to me… on that one day I wasn't appearing infront of you. you were expressing your love and the pain of separation. I imagined you are thinking of me. May be even it's a false statement. But I didn't mind. That day I cried with happy… no, no, I enjoyed with crying.

In short, those were moments when I realized that overwhelming joy can also be a reason for tears. That song was the best gift of my life given by you.  Even today, the lyrics of that song reminds the drop of essence from your love for me. You probably don't know. It's the love song I listen to every morning when I wake up. Just as your gaze never tires me, so too will this song, across many years, embrace my heart and draw me to you.

I keep searching for your fingerprints, In the book you touched and gave me, slowly I am losing myself in the process. In recent days, I often fear that our first meeting will also be our last. The thought that your love and care will all turn into a dream, leaving me abandoned and alone in this world again, makes me tremble. OMG.. Terrible thought..

From my childhood, I've been haunted by a recurring dream. It's a dream where I'm frantically studying for an exam all night, poring over books. Every line is crystal clear to my eyes. I read incessantly, breathlessly, within the dream. Even years after finishing my studies, this dream continued to pursue me. Mostly exhausting, this dream has terrified me on many occasions. It frightened me to the point where I wondered if I had some kind of mental disorder.

Do you know that this dream only left me after you began appearing in my dreams? Maybe it happened because of happy hormones, I guess. There are many things I wanted to tell you, but things I kept hidden. I yearn to share everything with you. But I hesitate, fearing it might affect your mind, your time, your life. Don't think my heart has hardened because of this. You are residing in my heart. How can a flower transform into a rock? Impossible, isn't it?

But in the past, I had to harden my heart. Since childhood, I had lived in a hostel. We only had two bathrooms for everyone. When I was in sixth grade, I had to bathe between 4:30 and 5:00 AM. Otherwise, my turn wouldn't come until after 8:30 AM. Fearing this, I would bathe very early in the morning. Because it was a hostel, there was no hot water.

The chill of early morning, the pre-dawn darkness, a large gecko staring at me in the bathroom, and the close-up shot of a ghost from a horror movie I once saw – all these things lined up to terrify me. Even then, I was adamant to refrain from muttering God's name. Do you know something about wolves? Unlike elephants or lions, wolves are not easily tamed by humans.

Don't think that wolves lack intelligence.  They can smell the air and identify traps set by humans kilometers away. They instantly understand human hunting strategies, cleverly breaking through them and escaping.

You can't easily leash a wolf like you would a dog. It's a creature that doesn't surrender its dignity even in the face of death. Even if its leg is severed and blood spurts out, we can't drag it even an inch from where it lies. But I am a human, a young girl at that time. I don't have immense courage; I have a lot of fear.  To hide that fear, I needed determination, like a wolf's.

At that age, my entire focus was only on my studies. So, every time I fetched water for a bath, with each mugful, I would vow, "I must get first rank in the upcoming exam," and pour the water over my head as if performing a ritualistic self-immolation for that purpose. That's how I managed to overcome the cold and fear.

However, I couldn't achieve first rank until I finished school. (Always second place..Now only I understood not only in studies, in life also).I could only find solace in the fact that it had at least saved me from the cold. Your memories have also saved me from countless issues. I don't want to bore you by recounting them all. I often felt the need to seek your permission for many things. But you neither gave me that right nor did I ask for it. Then why do we love these much dearly?  without knowing the answer withers away for you..

                        your devoted lover,

                        Diamond Jasmine.
